(go any way you want)Įach time racking the lens back out of focus by hand. Then turn off live view, Set the focus on single point-center "S" mode. As stated above, live view gives you your benchmark. Yeah I was expecting the fine tune adjustment to change the the focus once i set it. Oh, duh I used LV to set focus, then got out of LV and turned AF off. So in your case, get out of live view, shoot at -20, 0, +20, refocusing eachtime using the shutter/AF-ON, and you should get drastically different results. AF tunes are only applied when going through the viewfinder. If I'm reading this right, it sounds like you were expecting the AF fine tune adjustment to change where it was focused without ever refocusing the camera?ĪF fine tune does not effect live view. I'm not really looking for a problem although I've never been completely satisfied with focusing on this body. So it makes me wonder if lens tuning is working at all with this body.

What surprised me was that I found absolutely no difference between these shots even though the fine tune settings were extreme. No processing except cropping was done in LR or on export. The shots were taken indoors with an SB800 flash. Fine tune settings of -20, 0, and +20 were used. Focus was set using Live View I then turned off AF. I took three shots of a test pattern on a tripod. I am wondering if the following is an abnormal condition.

AF Fine Tune Ineffective at Any Setting - D7000.
